Happy Thursday, Emanuel Family,

Every day, I get a verse of the day from Biblegatway.com. Today’s verse is one of the most important ones in the Bible, Deuteronomy 6:4-5.

Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God is one Lord:

And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might. (KJV)

Jesus repeats this when he is asked what the greatest commandment was (Matt. 22:37-38.) The Jews feel it is so important it is the beginning of their daily prayers the Sh’ma. This prayer is repeated morning and night and was taught to every Jewish boy from the moment they could speak.

As we near Lent and a time of reflection, repentance, and contemplation, my wish is for you to contemplate and reflect on what these words mean to you. This passage tells us we are to have a complete love of God with everything from our intellect to our life force, using all our strength and power. Doesn’t the one who has created and given us all we have deserve such devotion?
